My Life in the Doldrums

|

Nothing much has been happening lately. To give the reader an idea of how exciting things are, let me tell you what prompted me to make a blog entry this morning. I was eating some Model Dairy Cottage Cheese and was enjoying it quite a bit. As usual, I mixed pepper in with the cottage cheese. I ate about half, then realized that there wasn't much pepper mixed in with the bottom half. To remedy this, I mixed in a couple more packets of pepper. My next bite was incredibly salty, so I looked at the empty packets and realized that one of the packets was actually salt! I stirred it up thoroughly thinking that one tiny packet couldn't possibly destroy that much cottage cheese. I was dead wrong. I ended up throwing half of my breakfast away.

And that's the event that made me blog.

In other news, I've noticed that Mike and Richard have increasingly artistic and colorful blogs. Maybe I should create some art for my blog. I have a feeling that something very exciting could be posted at some point in the future.

A Swirl of Germs

I've had a cold for the past week that just seems to linger. The first night was a painful sore throat that started to fizzle by the second night, but was replaced by having to get up every two hours to blow my nose. After a couple nights of that it turned into a cough that just won't go away. It is accompanied by very mild congestion, but the coughing is hideous. I slept on a couch in the next room in an attempt to allow Emilie a little bit of sleep. The coughing subsided by about 2:00a, I think.

In related news, I tried Zicam Cold Remedy RapidMelts (Cherry) when I first felt the cold coming on. I have to say that these were possibly the nastiest things I have ever put in my mouth. Although the flavor isn't horrible, the texture is vile. It can easily give you the dry heaves. The worst part is that instructions say not to drink or eat anything for 15 minutes after dissolving in your mouth. I found this request to be unreasonable. My first sympton was a sore throat, which the product claims to treat, but when you have a sore throat it really stinks to not be able to drink anything after sucking on a pill that has the consistency of a highly compressed wad of toilet paper. Still, I pushed forward and used them as much as I could per the directions (one tablet every three hours). I did not see any benefit from using this product. The symptoms were not noticeably lessened and I doubt the cold was shortened, as advertised on the box. It's interesting to note that the product is so bad that they don't even advertise it on the Zicam web page.

It's clear that Richard has something against non-IE browsers. I won't argue on a security level because every product has it's problems. I use Firefox because I like the look, feel and functionality better than IE. Also, spyware seems to take advantage of IE users almost exclusively. This could quickly lead to the argument about IE being targeted because it is the most widely used. This is probably true, but right now IE is the most targeted, which makes Firefox a better choice.

Snow, Blood, Bowl and a Fox

The weekend was a non-stop, action-packed festival of excitement. The party started Saturday morning as I ventured up the the Galena Park area to take my first stab at snowshoeing. I didn't go too far because I was trying to get back in time to go see a movie with Emilie. I plan on doing a serious trek next Saturday if things work out okay.

We had our plans set to go see a movie, but we received the call asking us to go donate blood at our stake's blood drive. I went and did the regular whole blood donation rather than the "double" red blood cell donation that I usually do. By the time I was done giving blood (Emilie abstained because of her recent medical procedure) it was a little too late to catch the movie we planned to see, so we scrapped that plan, ate lunch and went furniture shopping. I don't know if we'll ever buy any furniture, but Emilie likes to look. We'll probably consider it more once we are in the new house. Then again, we'll probably be broke.

Saturday evening we watched Cops and America's Most Wanted. When we first got married we used to watch these shows every week, but in the past couple years we haven't watched them as much. We've started to get back into them, though. Ask Emilie about police dogs - she thinks they rock!

Sunday was Stake Conference, as it was all over Nevada. It was a good meeting, but folding chairs get hard after two hours. I know, I know. Next time I'll get there earlier. But probably not.

The game was good. I wanted the Patriots to win since they seem like a much "classier" team than the Eagles, but I found myself cheering for the Eagles by the end of the game because they were doing so much better than most people thought they would. We had Wendy's family over for a big ol' party and it was fun. Most of the commercials this year were either lame or just regular commercials that we've seen a hundred times; however, the best one had to be Ameriquest's "Cat" commercial. Their page is slooooooow today, not doubt because of the ad.

No, It's a Cardigan, but Thanks for Asking

Earlier this evening, as I was coming home from work, I received a surprise visit from a Deputy Sheriff. He stopped by to see me by the side of my truck while I was parked by the side of the road. I wasn't originally parked, but I saw sirens so I pulled off the road like you're supposed to. After I stopped I realized he wasn't going to pass. Apparently, he was concerned that there might be some spelling errors on my insurance, registration and license, so he offered to use his computer to verify everything. Fortunately, there were no errors.

Actually, I was apparently going a little too fast and I was pulled over. On top of that, I hadn't put the new registration sticker on my plate yet so I looked extra guilty. I had the sticker with me, though. I was only one house away from our driveway. I mean, honestly! Who gets pulled over right next to their house?! Anyway, he didn't give me a ticket, which made me very happy. He warned me that the ticket would have been $150 if he did give me a ticket.

I'm flirting with danger. This is the second time I've been stopped in the past five years and didn't get a ticket. I'm not sure how long I can keep this up.
